Negation: In Arabic there are several ways of causing a negation i.e. not to do something. In this case the prefix Lam has been used, so Lam before any verb causes the verb to become negative so for Yalid (Begets) the phrase Lam+Yalid yield 'begets not'. However there is a catch, when Lam is prefixed, if the verb is at the present tense it will be re-tensed at past, so Yalid is present or begets, yet Lam+Yalid yields DID NOT BEGET!

According to Suyuti and Al-Alusi, the past tense of a verb indicates COTINUITY and COSTANCY not something occurring in the past e.g. O you who believed, does not mean those he believed in the past, means those who are constant in their belief.

Similarly the past tense of Lam+Yalid, means Allah did not, is not, will not have children, perpetually and immutably.
